SEVERE RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

Guard Such Loses his Leg.

Waikato people will be much grieved to hear that a serious accident happened to Guard Such on Saturday by which he has lost one of his legs. Mr Such was occupied in shunting some trucks at Mercer which arrived by the afternoon up-train, when in passing from one truck to another he lost his footing and fell on the line, a passing truck going over his left leg and smashing the bones. He was conveyed to Auckland without delay and taken to the Hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the crushed limb. Guard Such was a very efficient public servant and a great favourite with the travelling community by his attention and obliging disposition, and much sympathy is felt for him in his painful condition.
