PROPERTY-TAX VALUATIONS

TO THE KniTOR. Sir,—ln your issue of tlio 20th inst., Mr W. A. Murray in his letter on " Valuation and Taxation ' makes FeveralVtiit regarding a valuation 1 made Mnee years ago, of properties he is interested in in the Piako county. Will you kindly allow me space to correct some of these ? No. 1 does not contain 12,000 acres but only 1,234, and it was not valued at £8,500 but only £1,500, although sold a year previously for £2,200. Nos. 2, 3 and 4 are properties Mr Murray leased from the Thames High School Board in the township and neighborhood of Waiorongomai. He lias evidently mistaken the values of the freeholds for the value of his interest as leaseholder. Hence the wide difference between my valuation and the sum he obtained for his interest. A strange mistake certainly for a man to make who once represented (?) (I think misrepresented would be the more correct term to use for the majority of our members} a southern constituency in the House of Representatives and is, I hear, most anxious to step into our worthy member's shoes. With regard to No. 5 Mount Pleasant, 427 acres, which Mr Murray sold about four years ago for £1,200, I valued 12 months later at £750 after the purchaser had spent about £150 in improvements. I think the less he says about it the bel ter as my valuation was much nearer the mark than his.—l am &c. John Hunt.
