The Government have received a cablegram from the Agent General, to the effect that he lias not been able to arrange anything as yet, regarding Railway Coinmissionersliips. It is stated that Mr W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R., is about to pay a visit to the Argentine Republic, and other meat and wool producing states of South America, with a view to seeing for himself the condition of those industries there, their prospects and how they are likely to conflict with, or effect, similar industries in this colony. The steamer Brunner brought eight boxes gold from Grevmouth. Five were for the Bank of New Zealand, and weighed 4,079 ozs. Bdwts. 'lgrs., value being £10,342 Bs, other three were for the National Bank, and weighed 25970z5. 7dwts. value £10,397 Bs. Tho Rev. Mr Fencourt has been appointed to the Archdeaconry of Wellington, Vice Archdeacon Stock, retired. A Supplementary Gazette issued to-day contains an Order-in-Conncil, bringing dogs, camels, and deer under tho operation of the Diseased Cattle Act, 1881, and another Order making fresh regulations as to the introduction of stock into the colony under the same Act. The Mines Department have prepared plans for the construction of roads to the Mahakipawa Gold Fields, and have informed the Pelorous Road Board that the Government will be prepared to subsidise their expenditure in carrying the work at the rate of £ for £.
