Amateur Dramatic Play.—The dramatic entertainment given by our local ainatuers on Friday evening last was a most pronounced success. The audience was numerous and sympathetic, and a very enjoyable evening was spent by all present. The overture from tho opera of the Blind Girl, played by Mrs Helps and Mr Goodfellow on the piano and violin was a most finished performance, and loudlyl applauded. This was fol.owed by the comedy, " Cut off with a Shilling." in which appeared Mr J. Collier, as Colonel Berner, Mr S. Collier, as Gaythorne, and Miss Finch as Mrs Gaythorne. All these are so well-known that it need hardly be said that the performance was a most successful one, and kept the t audience in continual merriment and laughter. As Messrs Collier are about leaving the district, it will probably be their last appearance amongst us. After the usual interval another selection was played by Mrs Helps and Mr Goodfellow, and well applauded. The next pieco by the club was entitled, "We all have our Little Faults," with the following caste Rollick (a carpenter) Mr W. M. Chappell; Goosey (tailor), Mr G. Finch ; Gingernut (pastry-cook), Mr S. Collier ; Mrs Rollick, Miss Harper ; Louisa, Miss E. Wilson. This piece of low comedy caused roars of laughter, the actors all thoroughly identifying themselves with their respective parts. Mr Chappell as stage manager was as usual most energetic in that capacity. Thegrand tableau of Britannia concluded the performance, and was received with round after round of applause. It was a most successful and artistic combination. The following were the characters :—Britannia, Miss Wills; Ireland, Miss Allan ; Scotland, Miss Finch; Army, Mr Wills; Navy, Mr A. Ahier, The solo, " Rule Britannia," was sang in excellent style by Mr Rigg, the audience joining in the chorus. The usual pleasant dance followed, and was kept up until an early hour.
