WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Present: Crs. Lang (chairman), Finch, Smith, Taylor, Farrell and Dawson. Mr Armstrong, County Knginee ,- , was also in attendance.
Enginekk's Report. — The Engineer read his monthly report as follows : — "The repairs authorised in connection with the bridge over the Waikato river, at Cambridge, have been completed. I recommend the payment of the contractor's account, amounting to £15. A portion of this sum falls to be paid by the Cambridge Borough Council. The culvert on the Hamilton-Wharawhata Swamp Road has also been repaired, as instructed, and tho account (£2 7s) is recommended for payment. The slip in the side of the road over a culvert on the Rotorangi Swamp Road ha 3 been made up. When this work was opened out the damage was found to be less than appeared from the surface, consequently the reinstatement of the road has been done at a much less cost than was anticipated. During the last thiee weeks about cne and a-half miles of the nnclayed portion of this road (Kotorangi Swamp Road) has been very much cut up, and had the wet weather continued would undoubtedly have been rendered impassable. I understand this is principally due to the timber traffic at present being conducted over this road. It will be necessary to have the worst of the holes filled in at once, should the weather continue favourable to this work. The Hamilton-Whivtawhata Swamp Road is alsn in a bad condition in many places, and some surface repairs ought to be carried out at once. The samo may be said of the KihiUihi-Te Awamutu road, and also a portion of the Paterangi Road. Referring to your instructions re Soldiers Bridge, this is a short piece of road on the Hamilton-Ngaruawahia road, about ten chains long, and lift. wide. This is not sufficient to allow two machines to pass when going in the opposite direction. It is on a reverse curve, with a ditch on one side, while the ground Mis considerably on the other, and is bordered with high ti-tree on the both sides. From these causes a driver coming on at one end is unable, till too late, to see if anything is coming from the opposite direction, and passing in such a place is difficult, if not impossible. To execute the necessary works to give the road a due degree of width, 1 estimate tho cost at £28.—1 am, etc., Ai.kx. Aiui-STRONC? County Engineer. ICihikihi. 10th September, 18SS."—The report was received, and Cr.
