During the last three years the deficit has amounted in all to £600,000, and the total debt is now £17,300,000. The Treasurer does not look with a favourable eye on the land and income tax, but proposes to entirely repeal the old tariff and remodel it on a proportion basis. The ad valorem duties will be increased from OJf to 15 per cent. In order to foster the farming industry, the duties on dairy and pardon produce will be increased. It is hoped a surplus of £71,000 will be shown next year.
