THE LOST TEN TRIBES.
The Anglo-Israelites have got another nut to crack in the alleged discovery of the ten lost tribes of Israel in that hitherto unknown country, Thibet, where the British are now prosecuting a little war. Thibet, according to a French traveller who has succeeded in penetrating into the heart of the country and getting back safely to Paris, contains a people who are in all respects Jews, and are supposed to be descendants of the lost ten tribes. These peoplo speak the purest Hebrew, practice circumcision and all the rites of the Jewish faith, and have a magnificent temple, in which is kept with jealous care what is said to be the ark that was in the tabernacle during the 40 years following the exodus. If the Thibetans are the lost ten tribes, the Anglo-Israel theory must fall to the ground. Bat the Afghans, Zulus, and others have long ago been " identified with the lost Israelites, without impairing the AngloIsrael hypothesis, so that a way will doubtless be found of bringing the Thibetans into the happy family. Indeed, the very fact that England (Israel) is being forced into Thibet will probably be looked upon as proof that the Thibetans and the English are "long-lost brothers," and that the present war is a providential means of re-uniting them.—Star.
