HARAPIPI

Raglan County Elections.—The nomination of candidates for the new Raglan County Council, the Pirongia Biding, came off on Saturday, the two nominated, were .Air A. S. Sherret and Mr J. McGuirk. As these were the only two they were declared duly elocte:!, Mr A. S. Sherret is re-elected, Mr J. Mcliuirk takes the vacancy caused by Mr J. Hodgson, our former representative declining to stand. Mr J. B. Somerset, Clerk of the Raglan County Council, acted as Returning OfficerWaipa Chops.—ln my last letter in some remarks I made on the crops o£ corn grown in this district, I seem to have trodden on the corns (this is not meant for a goak as Artemus Ward would say) of a correspondent of yours, who calls himself "Old Waipa," Young would be more suitable I think. He must have been one of the growers that I did not interview on the question as I had no idea he had such a crop; but I am inclined to think that the other part of my letter was the bit that touched him on the raw, as it is very little he can know about the crops of corn grown in this district, to make the romancing statements he does. There never was a crop of wheat grown on Mr Glanville's land since the Waikato was confiscated, or in the Maori days, in the memory of anyone living in this part, and if anyone is wanting to purchase it I shall be most happy to sell it to him for Mr Glanville, also several other pieces of as good land, from 30 acres up to 400. Don't think. Mr Editor, that I want to get an advertisement in on the cheap, as if any of the above sell through this, I will stump up for the advertisement. The figures of the other crop grown would be nearer the mark if the three were left out, and a 1 put before the 4, old or young Waipa, when he hears yarns about crops grown, should always take them, cum grano salis. For the last two days we have had a strong galo blowing from the South, and very cold.
