VAILE'S SCHEME.

The following is the full text of the resolution passed by the Waikato County Council and forwarded to the Minister for Public Works :— The Chairman moved, "That this Council, as the local representatives of the people o£ Waikato, tender to Mr Samuel Yaile, of Auckland, their hearty thanks, and _ express their admiration of the public spirit which enables him to continue his untiring efforts to induce the Government of the colony to give a fair trial to his system of railway management. "A system which has been so clearly explained and illustrated as to convince a large proportion of the public bodies, the Press, and the people of New Zealand, that its adoption will undoubtedly conduce to the speedy and profitable settlement of the country districts, which at the present time is the great want of the colony. "A Parliamentary committee (of which the Hon. Mr Mitchelson was chairman, and Major the Hon. Sir Harry A. Atkinson a prominent member), after a prolonged and exhaustive enquiry, recommended that a trial of Mr Vaile's scheme be made on some line of railway in the colony, provided that the Government were guaranteed against loss. "Itwas consequently, with surprise and regret, that the Council, learned through the Press, that although Mr Yaile, supported by men of evident intelligence, as well as the necessary capital, had generously offered to provide the required guarantee, the Hon. Minister of Public Works, on behalf of the Ministry, has ( unreasonably declined to give effect to the j recommendation of the committee, of which he was chairman, and the Premier, a prominent member, thus unmistakably showing to the people of ]S r ew Zealand that the Government ignore and disregard their opinion, and that the present and future progress of the colony is to them a matter of secondary consideration.
