CONCERT AND DANCE AT CAMBRIDGE WEST.
A CONCKUT and dance was held in the Cambridge WestSchuol, on Friday evening, to raise funds to renovate the Public Hall, that has lately been acquired. The building formerly did duty as as a church, but is now vested in trustees for the benefit of the inhabitants of the township, and all public meetings will be held in it, instead of, aa whs formerly the case, in the school. The chair was ably tilled by Mr W. Allen, who, after a brief speech, introduced the performers. The following is the programme :—Piano duet, "Sleigh Bella,' Misses Nixon and Master ; sons, " Rocked in the Cradle of the Beep," Mr C. Cudworth; song, "The Vagabond," Mr Knight; duet, "' I heard a, voice," Mr and Mrs Garland, encored and repeated ; song, " When Sparrows Build," MissE. Dillon ; comic song, ' I'm very fond of water," Mr J. H. Juhnson, encored, and Dibden's old song, '"Ihere's nothing likeGiog,"substituted ; song, '' I never troubled trouble, till trouble troubled me," Mr B. Garland ; piano trio, " Great Globe Quadrilles, ' Misses Nixon (2), and Master; song "Tn-inorrow" Miss Southgato ; comic song, "Wedding Bells," Mr H. Wilson, encored and "The Yellow Girl" given; song, " The Silver Rhine," Mrs 0. Garland ; song, "The Kairies," MissE. Bright;song, "The White Squall,'Mi" O. Gavland ; comic song, " The Ballanbooby Horse," Mr 11. Watson, encored and "Widow McShano " substituted ; duet, " The Gipsy Countess," Miss R Dillon and Mr C. Cudworth. Most ot the performers acquitted themselves well, the gem of the evening was, however, the duet by Mr and Mrs O. Garland. As is always the case the comic songs were encored. Mr Johnson made a great hit with his " Water " and afterwards substituting "Grog. Mr Wilson did full justice to the " Yellow Girl and Mr Watson's " Widow McShano " was immense. The accompaniments were played by Miss Wilson and Messrs McDerinott nnd Hirtly. On the motion of MrT. Hicks a hearty vote of thanks was tendered to the performers, Mr O. Garland being specially mentioned, as ho had managed the whole of the musical arrangements. The room was then cleared and dancing commenced and wan kept up until 5 a.m.
