AN ÆRONAUT KILLED

(by electric telegraph.—copyright). London, August 28. J. H. SnnroNS, the aeronaut, ascended in a balloon, at the Irish Exhibition, now being held at the Olympia Circus, South Kensington. The upward journey was successfully accomplished, but in the descent the car collided with a tree, and Simmons was killed. Later.

It appears that J. H. Simmons, the aeronaut, with two companions, had ascended in the balloon, with the intention of crossing the English Channel and proceeding to Vienna when, owing to an accident, the balloon collapsed, and fell to the ground in Essex, Simmons being killed, and his two companions seriously injured. At the Exhibition being held at South Kensington, balloon ascents are made every Monday. __________
