LAND ON THE WAIPA.
TO THE EDITOIt. Sir, —It appears every district is afflicted with a perpetual grumbler. I see by The Waikato Timks that Harapipi lias got one of the howling class too, who is never tired proclaiming the misery to be met with by anyone that might be foolhardy enough to take up land there. It is his business, Mr IMitor, to discourageihe settlement of the waste lands in hi£.>flP>tibourhood. He has some land fiimsey, but yon seldom see any stock, with the exception of a horse or two, inside his fence, although I mil told lie is the owner of a large herd of cattle, all running on the unoccupied lands in the district. Now tho wheat crop that is so poor according to his tale is very fair indeed. I asked some of the farmers living there how the wheat turned out, and they all seemed highly pleased with tho return per acre. The price has nothing to do with the capability of the land. It has been known for years past that the flat lands of Tβ Rore and Harapipi can't be beaten for wheat growing. I have been told that Mr Sherrett got a return of about -13 bushels per acre from a wheat crop on his farm in the early days of Waikato, and long before the introduction of artificial manures. I am also told a hue crop of wheat grew on Mr (Henn'eld's land, now for sale or lease. Anyone can see it by the road outside Mr Thompson's fence, n, good block indeed. I can atgiire you, Mr Editor, them are hundreds of acres of good land to begot cheaply in that district, if any person wanting to purchase inquired in the right place and took no notice of such persons as Mr Growlhard. Apologising far trespassing on your valuable space, I am, &c, Old Waipa, August 17, 1888.
