OTOROHANGA.

■ DiHTimiunoN oi , Trout.—lt is pleasing to • note the efforts of the Acclimatization Society in the distribution of trout throughout the various parts of the provincial district. On the Kith of this month, Mr Cliff, 1 curator having charge of the Society's fish ponds, successfully liberated a batch of 250 young trout in the creek at Otorohanga, ' and another batch were to be liberated near Lichfield, so that the upper streams of this Waipa will, it is hoped, in a few years be alive with English trout. In course of time, perhaps, they will meet once more at the delta at Ngaruawahia, and each choosing it? mate, strike up stream again on their wedding tour, for the cool, shoal beaches of the mountain streams. The fish sent up are a very fine lot, some of them being over six inches long. The American brook trout in tho Society's fish ponds are hatching out splendidly ; also they have in addition, American spotted trout, the handsomest fish of tho tr»ut- species. The successful efforts of the Society deserve recognition and encouragement should be given by increased subscription to their fund to enable them still further to distribute trout over our provincial district. Great praise is also due to Mr Cliff for his success in their raising and distribution, and last but not least to our old friend, Mr T. B. Hill.
