Report : At Hamilton on Thursday, thcro was a good lot of horses brought forward, also a largo nuinbor of cattle, all of the latter sold, and horses sold freely, we quote: Empty heifers, £1 10s ; store cows, £1 >)s to £2 , fat heifers and cows, £3 i>s to £3 /s (>d ; waggonette, £18 ; saddle, £2 to £2 2s. At Cambridge, on Saturday, at Booth and Roberts' meat sale there was a very large attendance of buyers. All offered sold well, and double the quantity could have been placed. In fntnro a much larger quantity will be offered. At ' the Cattle Yards, a large nurabor of cattle brought forward and, with the exception of one cow, all sold at very satisfactory prices. Dairy cows, £3 to £3 17s (id ; steer calves, 18s, 10s and 21s ; mixed sexes, lis to 14s ; fat heifers, £2 10s to £3 2s (>d. At the Horse and Produce Yards, a large quantity of potatoes sold at 5s (id per bag; seed potatoes, Id and l.[d per lb ; fowls, Is to Is 4d; turkeys, 2s (id. A good number of horses were brought forward, but did not Bell so freely as usual, with the exception of plough horses. We quote : Hacks, from £4 to £8 10s; plough horses, £7 12s (id to £9 ss. At Ohaupo, on Tuesday, the yards were nearly filled with cattle, also a large number of sheep penned. Cattle of all classes were in request and sold well. All sold with tho exception of a few dairy cows, and three head of beef, There is a great demand for young cattle and grown steers, and sellers would do well to sell now, instead of waiting for Spring. Wo quote: Dairy cows, from £3 to £1 ; weaned calves (mixed sexos), 14s to 20s; yearling steers, 21s to 28s ; I.J to 24-year-old steers, £113s to £2 15s ; three-year-old steers, £3 to £3 15s; store cows, £1 4s to £2 5s ; fat cows and heifers, about (SO head sold, from £2 17s Gd for heifers, to £4 10s for cows. About 800 ewes, near lambing, sold from 10s Gd to 12s 3d ; fat wethers, lis and 12s ; black Tartarian seed oats, 2s 3d and 2s 4d per bushel.
Mb J. MoNicol Retorts.— At Ohaupo, on Tuesday, 300 head of cattle yarded. Had a good attendance of buyers, and prices in favour of sellers fur all classes of stores, Beef relatively lower than stores. Grown steers, off swedes, from £2 19s for very backward cattle to £4 5s for fresh ; 2i-year-old steers, £2 Gs to £2 10s ; 18 month steers, in well condition, £2 os ; and steer calves. 20s to 30s ; heifer, calves, 18s to 2os ; nearly fat cows', £217s to £3 each, and fresh empty heifers, £2; fat steers, £4 15s to £5; and fat cows, £3 3s to £3 7s; 50 ewes at lambing, made 10s (id each. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Mn A Lb-nun Bucki.and's Weekly Repout.—During the past week fodder has varied in price with condition and quality from Is 3d to 2s the cwt; chaff from £2 5s to £2 15s the ton ; maize, 2s 3d to 2s 7d ; short oats, 2s to 2s 4d ; Tartars, 2s !)d the bushel ; Auckland potatoes, £2_lss to £3 5s ; bonedust, £0 10s ; carrots, 25s the ton. On Friday, August 17th, horse stock were sold in greater numbers than usual, and at improved values, also a spring cart_ horse and harness, a farm waggon, £2(i. On Tuesday hides and skins were pitched in increasing quantity, and good prices obtained for them. Some choice heavy hides brought4Jd thelb, or 30seach ; good medium ox hides, 4j;d to 4J.d ; cow hides, ■3 ; injured slight inferior hides, from 2d the lb. and upwards; bones, £4 5s the ton ; sheepskins, from 2s to 5s 3d each. At Remuera on Thursday dairy cows were dull of sale; prices ranged from £1 12s (id to £5 ss. Store cattle in fresh condition sold well, but backward cattle were lower in price than last week. Tat cattle in less than average number, and sold irregularly. Heavy cattle were at lower values fully 10s each, but light weights were at last week's prices. Steers from 14s to llis the 1001b.; a draft from 70 steers from the West Coast averaged £6 4s each. Sheep, in full numbers, were generally at lower values from Is to 2s each, a few pens of choice quality only realizing last week's values; a draft of wethers from the West Coast averaged 138 Gd, and one of mixed sexes 12s. A few early fat lambs were yarded ; prices ranged fiom 7s Gd to 13s each. Pigs were in usual number, in demand at satisfactory prices. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Report.—Horse feed, grain, seeds, etc. : Prices for oats are hardening, but other grain and feed are without alteration. Wo quote: Feed oats, 2s Gd per bushel ; maize, 2s 9d ; bran £3 10s per ton ; chaff, £2 to £2 10s por ton ; carrots, 25s to 30s per ton. Horses : But a limited number have been brought forward; purchasers were forthcoming for anything of a decent stamp at slighly advanced values. Rather less than an average number were submitted by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday ; bidding was slow, but most of the lots were cleared. We quote : Hacks, at from £0 to £U ; light harness horses, from £0 10s to £12 17s Gd. The special sale held at Mr Pilkington's East Tamaki, was very successful Unbroken horses sold at from £10 to £15 10s ; broken, from £8 to £14 15s ; farm waggon, £23 ; reaper and binder, £18 10s; Wajlace double-furrow plough, £10. Wool, hides, and skins: Rather less than usual were pitched at the Durham yards on Tuesday. We quote : Heavy ox hides, from 3Jd to 4i[d per lb. ; medium, 3d to 3id ; cow, 2h<i to 3.1; calf skins, 4d to 4.Jd per lb. ; pelts, Is to Is lOd each ; woollun skins, 3s oil to 4s lOd each. Cattle : But lew stores have been brought, most of the breeders holding back for tha September fair. Dairy cows and tat stock have been brought forward in increased numbers without much alteration in value. There was a fair muster of dairy and fat stock at the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday. Prices on the whole were much the same as on the previous week, but there was a good deal of fluctuation. Some averages of steers were: £4 (is 3d, £5 17s, £6 ss, £0 17s Gd, £G 19s, and £7 ss; cow 3, £3, £3 10s, £4 7s 3d and £4 10s. Rather a short number were yarded at Newmarket on Tuesday, and for one lot reserves could not be reached, consequently below an average number were disposed of. We quote: Wethers, from 12s (id to 17s ; ewes, lis to 13s 9d ; lambs, to lis 3d. Pigs: Very few yarded. There remains an unsatisfied enquiry for good store pigs : also good porkers. ANTERBURY LIVE STOCK MARKETS. From the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency's report for August 17th. we take the following as the state ot stock markets in Canterbury.— Live Stock : Totals yarded at Canterbury saleyards, Addition, on August 15,— Sheep, 3774; cattle, 251; pigs, 243. Fat Sheep : Owing partially to the recent rough weather, the markets were poorly supplied as regards numbers, the quality, however, in one or two instances, being very good. Competition was good throughout, and late values were quite maintained. The local trade purchased freely, and there was also a certain amount of buying for export, which, however, was conducted with caution. Wo quote mutton at 2Ad per lb for ordinary to 3d per lb for some of the best quality cross-bred wethers. General transactions were as under:—Prime heavy cross-bred wethers, 15s to 17s ; mixed sexes and heavy ewes, 14s to lGs ; lightweights and inferior, 12s to 13s Gd ; medium to prime merino wethers, 9s Gd to 13s (id. One of two pens of exceptionally heavy long wool wethers brought 19s to 20s.' Store sheep : Only a light entry with good demand for all on offer. We sold forward mixed cross breds at 12s 2d, aged cross-bred ewes in poor condition made 7s lid and 8s 7d, good cross-bred hogKetß 10s Gd, forward cross-bred wethers 12s 7d. Cattle : In the fat pens thero was only a moderate entry, and an improved sale reunited. Heavy bullocks realised £7 10s to £!)ss, medium £5 10s to £(> 15s, cows and heifers £3 I.ls to £« 10s, and up to £8 for extra heavy good sorts. Beef may be quoted at llis to 20s per lOOlbs, and in some cases a shade over. In the store department trade was unimportant find without alteration of values. Good dairy stock sold well up to £7 for those in immediate profit. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. (BY KLECTKIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT.)
