The Waikato Times Office, Friday. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Mr Alkreb Buckland's Weekly Report.—During the past week meadow hay has brought from Is 3d to la !)d; oaten sheaves, Is lid to Is 9d ; straw, la; chaff, 2s to 3s the cwt; oats, 2s 3»1 to 2s Gd ; maize, 2s Gd the bushel ; bonedust, from £5 10s to £8 10s the ton. At the horse sale on .Friday prices obtained for useful horses showed an improved value. Heavy draught readied £25; active, medium draught, from £0 to £10 ; a Cambridge roller, £12 ; bnggv, £10. On Tuesday hides and skins were pitched in full numbers, and met with a brisk sale. Heavy ox hides brought 4,sd to *1 kl; cow hides, 3|d ; calfskins, from 3'id to 4d per lb; full wool sheepskins, fro'ii 3s -Id to (is each. At Drury on Wednesday the first good muster of store cattle for the season met a good inquiry. From 80 to 100 steers from 2.V to 3 years old, sold from £2 8s to £3 (is each, averaging about £2 15s ; young dry cows, from 35s to 455; dairy cows and heifers near calving, {■•om £2 5s to £4 12s Gd ; few calves or yearlings yarded. At Reinuera on Thursday dairy cows sold more freely than last week. Heifers at first calf, £3 ; cows, from £4 to £0. Fat cattle in full numbers, and scarcely kept last week's values, which range with quality from 14s to 17s the 1001b; prices for steers were from £5 5s to £7 17s (id; cows, £3 to £6. Sheep in moderate number were also slightly lower in price. Wethers ranged from 12s to 17s each. The pigs yarded were of good quality and better worth. Horses ; There has been increased vitality in the market, although scarcely an average number have been brought forward, but the demand was stronger. The Durham Yards were moderately supplied oil Friday. There was fair competition, and most of the lots were cleared. We quote: Hacks, £s_to £1110s, light harness horses, £0 to £12 5s ; no draught horses sold. Wool, hides, and skins : There was an average supply at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, No heavv ox hides were pitched, and there was a decline in value of medium. We quote: Ox, 3Jd to per lb ; cow, 2jd to 3.[d ; calfskins, 4d to 4',d per lb; sheepskins, 3s to 5s 2d each. Cattle : But few stores have been brought forward, and there has been an active enquiry for steers of all classes, and an upward tendency in value. Dairy oows were in good demand, but without material alteration in value. Fat beasts have been more plentiful, and there was a still further rise in value. There was a good muster at Newmarket on Tuesday. Dairy cows maintained the previous week's values. "Very few stores were yarded and fat beasts were tolerably plentiful, and were well competed tor throughout." Steers ranged at from £5 5s to £7 17s lid ; some averages were £7 12s Gd, £7 9s, £7, £l> 18s 3d, £(i !)s (id, £0 ss. A lot of 13 steers from Mr Given, of the Pollok, being very good and driven, sold relatively the highest, averaging £7 10s each. Cows averaged £■> 10s, £4 7s Gd, £4 Gs 3d, £3 12s Gd, £3 ss. Sheep sold at last week's values, wethers at from 13sto 17s 3d; ewes, 12s to 14s Gd Pigs in good demand and scarce, prices ranged at from 2d to 2Jd per lb, live weight.
