HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of Lho Hamilton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers at 7.30 p.m., on Present His Worship the Mayor, in the chair, Crs. Similes, Salmon, Wood, Mfssen, Bell, Frear, and Jones. The minutes of the last ordinary and adjourned mi'etiiig, and a special meeting were read and confirmed. Work.— I The Foreman of Works reported with reference 1 to C. Carthy's application for work, that he did not deem it advisable to make any alterations, as the present man was capable ot carrying out tho work, and now knew what and whuro it was required; The report was received and adopted. Insurance.—A notice was received from the London and Lancashire Fire Company, that the policy covering the Council Chambers and furniture lapsed on the 18th inst. The Clerk was authorised to resume in the same office, if the Company ivill accept tho same rate. Road,— Eugene McSweeney wrote, complaining of the bad state of the road from Collingwood street, from towards Mr Unmes' paddock, and asked that some repairs be done. Referred to Foreman of Works. Audit.—The Auditor General wrote stating that the retaining fee to Mr Hay, and several items in his account had been disallowed, and asking for an explanation. The matter was referred to the Legal Commutes. Poundkeeper's Report.— I The Ponndkeeper repotted that he had registered nine dotr-< durintr the month, making a total of 155 since January, that 2 head of cattle had been impounded, and that he had received the following monies :—Pound fees, 3s Gd ; Hamilton West Commonage. Is; Hamilton East Commonage, ss; Park Reserve, £1 14s; dog fees, £1 7s (id. Total, £3 lis. Gate.—Cr. Salmon moved that the Foreman of Works be instructed to erect a gate at tho saleyards paddock.—Seconded by Cr. Jones and carried. Finance. —The Finance Committee reported that they had interviewed the manager of the Bank of New Zealand, and had arranged to lodge the £4000 for another year, at the rate of 4k per cent, per annnm, and had the rate of interest on overdraft reduced from 0 per cent, to 8 per cent,, with a likelihood of a further reduction to 7 per cent.—The report was adopted. Leases.—-The Clerk reported that three of the allotment offered for lease had been purchased by Mr Thos. Ormeston at 7s Gd per acre per annum, but the other lots were passed. Retaining Fees.— Cr. Jones moved that Messrs Hay and O'Neill be notified that they are no longer retained. —Seconded by Cr. Wood and carried. Planting Bee.—lt was resolved that the Mayor and Councillors attend the Bee in their official capacity, and that the exMayors be invited to attend. Payments. — The following accounts were passed for payment:—J. Frear, £1 is; J. Parr, 9-i !)d; Cham taloup and Cooper, £1 19s (id; D. Elliott, 3s (id; Waikato Coal and Shipping Co., £0 ; freight, £1 4s; D. Lees, £1 los Gd ; R. Waite, £3 9s Gd ; W. Kelly, £4 10s 3d ; T. Jones, £S 10s (id ; S. Coombes, £1 14s lid ; This Waikato Times, £1 9s Gd; R. Dellicar, £2 10s ; \V. Manning, £4 Bs. Tho Council having concluded the business, adjourned to 10.30 a.m. on Thursday (tO-day).
