TEAROHA.
Domain Board.—The adjourned meeting of the Domain Board was held in the office on Saturday evening, at the usual hour. Messrs Gavin, (chairman), Ahier and Ilott were present. Air Geo. Lipsey being still seriously indisposed, did not attend. Minutes of July meeting read and coufirmed.—Letter received from Propertytax Department in reply, stating that "Under Sub-sections 12 of the Crown and Native Linds Act, ISS2," the domain is not liable for rates. Letter enclosed from W. Kelly, M.H.R., which ho had received from the Hon. Mr Richardson, Minister of Lands, in reply to his application for a grant for domain purposes, stating that there were no funds available, and that the Board would have to rely upon its own resources. Re lawn extension. The Chairman stated that only two tenders had been received for the pioposed alterations, and as both were above the means at the disposal of the Board, he would suggest an alteration in the level and plan by making the second court, say, 15 or 18 inches lower than the one now completed. On the motion of Mr Ahier, it was resolved to have amended specifications prepared and tenders called for at once. —Re advertisements in Guide. —The Clerk said he had asked Mr Crnmp, who were still indebted for their advertisements, and he had referred him to Mr Geo. Wilson, who is at present away. He further in formed the Board that he had written to, but had received no reply from the Minister of Land, re allowing the Board to permit private persons to connect with the Board's water supply, and making the same a source of revenue. The repairs necessary to No. 2 bath were next considered, but nothing was authorised. Mr Ahier was requested to see the Town Board Engineer, re level of fence, which had been affected by the footpaths being formed. The month's takings amounted to £22.—Mr Ahier proposed and the Chairman seconded, that the following accounts be paid : —F. C. Smithman (tickets), £1 7s Gd; W. McCullough (printing guides), £30 ; J. Miller, (advice), £1 Is: rates, 17s; T. aud S. Morrin (Sundries), £2 Is Gd.—Carried.—Credit balance at bank after accounts were paid, £G0 IDs Sd. Thr Late Mk Craven.—The effects of Mr T, Craven, who lately committed suicide at Waitoa, were disposed of in the Club yard, on Friday, by Mr James Craig, auctioneer, and from tha priccs realised, no superstitious fear prevented, very spirited bidding for them. Among the lines sold were a rough diary and a pocket book, each containing the name and address of his married sister in Gisborne, and in the diary was a copy of a letter to Mr Haselden, Inspector of patent rights, applying upon the recommendation of J. B. Whyte, M.H.R., for instruction? for patenting a grate bar, to be known as Craven's pa,tent Grate Bar for all kinds of steam boilers. The pocket book has a roughly made will, unsigned, in which he wishes his sister to get all his effects. Reward yon Saving Life. — The courageous rescue of a drowning boy sometime back by Mr V. C. Smithyinan, (proprietor Aroha Gazette) is to be publicly recognised. The Chairman of the Te Aroha Town Board has received instructions to that effect and the matter has been placed in his hands by the Humane Society of Australasia.
