[By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] Sydney, Augast 7. News to hand per British-India steamer gives details of a terrible fatality on board the steamer Clan Mclntosh during the voyage from Liverpool to Calcutta. It appears that noxious gas was generated among the cargo in the hold, and the chief officer and three native seamen lost their lives in the attempt to disperse the gas. Thirteen other members of the crew were prostrated before the hold was cleared of tho gas. but recovered in a few days.
