Mr Ralph returned from the Great Barrier copper mine, and Drought with him about a ton and ahalf of ore, which he intends sending to the Melbourne Exhibition. It contains a quantity of copper pyrites and cobalt. Mr Ralph status that the property, which is freehold, consists of 10,000 acres, and has been purchased by him for a Melbourne syndicate. ROTORUA, Wednesday. A native woman at Oiiineinutu named Punohu, was killed yestenlny by a dead tree falling on her in a clearing at the foot of Ngahohotaha Mountain. The body was brought in here yesterday eVeII NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. Legal proceedings have been instituted by the Union Company against the New Plymouth Harbour Board, for £3000 damages, owing to the loss of the Hawera through alleged negligance of the Board's officers. MASTERTON, Wednesday. A man named Hopwood was bush falling at Eketahuna on Monday, when a tree fell on him and broke both his legs. WESTPORT, Wednesday. A man named James Davis, passenger from Greymouth by the steamer Kennedy, disappeared over board from the steamer, when within a few miles of Westport, at about 10 o'clock. He had suffered from illness and weakness of mind, and was coming here for a change. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Alfred Rouse, belonging to Rangiora, who served a term of imprisonment some months ago for preferring to rough it in the Mount Grey bush rather than support his wife and family, disappeared immediately almost after leaving gaol. A day or two ago some men, working on a contract about seven miles to the back of White Rock Station, noticed a light in the Okuku River bed, and, making for it, obssrved a man in a queer disguise. Thinking they had ceme upon Jonathan Roberts, they closed in quickly, and effected his capture, instead of Jonathan, however, they found they had caught Rouse. He was clothed in sacks, and had been dependent upon roots, berries, and anything he could catch for his sustenance during several weeks. He was in a pitiable condition. The foolish man was conveyed to the station, where he reeeived attention. TIMARU, Wednesday. Several bridges in the Geraldine country, including one which has cost about £14,000, have been reported unsafe by the county engineer. The council has no funds in hand to repair them, and today it was resolved, owing co the existing depression to close them if this is necessary to save them from liability for accidents rather than strike a county rate. _^^______^_
