The Alameda, with the colonial mails to the llith ult., arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on the 4th inst., one day earl}'. A cablegram received from Andrew Stewart, who was a passenger by the Alameda, announces that he has very much improved in health during the voyage. A servant girl, named "Rose McCaffry, of the Robert Burns Hotel, had her dross caught lire. She screamed for assistance and the neice of the landlady ran in and succeeded in extinguishing the flames, but the girl was severely burned about the hips. At the Supremo Court civil sessions, the sitting to-day was occupied with the case McQuarrie v. McUregor, in which judgment was given by consent for plaintiff for £100. A large amount of business was done on 'Change to-day Bank New Zealand sold. £10 0s Gd, now quoted £10 10s ; National Insurance purchased at l!)s 2d, buyers offer IDs; National Mortgage, cum. div., changed hands at lis ; and encouraging report for new l'rince Imperial had the effect of bringing these shares into the marked, and business was done at 3s and 3s (id, now quoted sellers 4s. At tho Bay of Islands Coal Company s meeting, to-day, the report stated that notwithstanding the diminished sales and extra heavy expenditure on dam*, Pro-perty-tax and other items, tho statement of accounts appended shows that the profit and loss account credit balance stands at £21.!)! i (after allowing for last dividend, £900), out of which it is proposed to pay a dividend for the half year at the rate of <i per cent per annum, which will absorb £t'oo, ami leave £12% to credit.
