THE SALVATION ARMY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—There is at present a great deal of talk as to whether the " Salvation Army " has a right to carry on its meetings in the public streets of the borough, and several friends of the Army have been complaining to the police about their being interrupted by " mocking, singing songs to the same tune, etc." It has been mentioned by a person in office, that the Hamilton Band lias no right to play during the time the Ariny is holding forth, and as yet the band has acted in a very gentlemanly manner, and has refrained through courtesy. An opinion from your paper as representing the local feeling in the matter would be thankfully received by a great number of your readers.—Yours, etc., Deva. [We are not aware of any antagonistic feeling against the Salvation Army. All ! reasonable and right-minded people recognise the good they are doing, and wo would very much regret to find any set of people in Hamilton wilfully obstructing their humane work. Their meetings have been attended by all classes, from the highest to the lowest amongst us. If anyone has a grievance against them, the law courts are open for its redress. We cannot give our correspondent an opinion such as he asks ; he had better consult a solicitor.— En., W.T ]
