In consequence of immorality the French Chamber proposes an urgent bill to suppress all male religious orders in France. Sir Morell Mackenzie has been requested to write a history of Fredrick Ill's illness. The cricket match between Eton and Harrow was won by the latter by 116 runs. There have been severe snow Rtorms in England. The Government has consented to an amendment in the County Government Bill providing for payment of advances made to emigrants to the colonies. Russia has accepted the Sugar Bounties Convention. The Imperial Government will not vote a sum of money in aid of the proposed Antartic expedition. The American Tariff Bill is expected to be carried by a majority of fifteen. A British cruiser has seized two French fishing vessels off Newfoundland. The third battalion of the Rifle Brigade has been ordered from Kgypt to Zululand. The Powers have taken no notice of the Pope's threat to leave Italy. Archbishop Walsh assures the Irish of the Pope's sympathy and affection. Stanley is reported within three day's march of Kartoum. Mrs Gordon Baillie and her husband have been further remanded. Frauds to the extent of thousands of pounds have been discovered against them. liOXDON, July 17. Tho new two-and-a-half consols are quoted at 99.V. St. Petersburg, July 17.
