TE AROHA
The "Bonouc;ir Agitation.—Tlic public mind is agitato! with the question of enlarging our form of Local Government, nnd conjointly forming Te Aroint and Waiovongomai into a borough. Iho residents in tins district have been unanimously in favour of securing the extended powers which the Municipal Corporation Act affords. But the residents in A\aiorongomai do not appear to have yet quite decided, but are anxious to co-operate. A public meeting was hold in that district last nijrht, to give W. A. Murray, Esq., late an opportunity to express Ins views upon the subject. At its close an animated discussion took place relative to the subject, and a resolution was passed by a majority of one, postponing the matter for six months. The dreadful state of the roads in that district should certainly lead thereto assume some form of self government nt an early date. Masonic. —A grand Masonic ball took place in the Public Hall ou Tuesday night* at which about forty couples lhe proceeding* were comuicuced by the Grand March, the members of the Order leading in regalia, after which dancing was entered into with spirit, which was maintained until tho "sma' wee hours." The position of Master of Ceremonies was ably filled by Mr Henrj Mace. The catering by Mr A. Wallace, of Waiorongomai, left nothing to be desired, and the music rendered by Messrs H. Greenwood (violin), and G. Everitt (piano), gave every satisfaction. Tho hall was tastefully decorated with evergreens, Hags, and Chinese lanterns, ana reflected great credit upon the management. _ Kkmoval of Mu Vause.—The announcement that our local postmaster is to be removed does not appear to meet with public sympathy, as a petition is being inrluentially signed, praying that lie may be allowed to remain. ___
