PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Meeting.
A special meeting of the Piako County Council was held at the Phoenix Hotel, Morrinsville, at 10 o'clock yesterday, Present: Crs. Ohepmell (chairman), Heany, Dibble, Murphy, Mills, Gould, Bruuskill, and Browning. . .. The Chairman moved that this Council, by and with the consent of the Taotaoroa Road Board, do now by " special order, herewith made declare all that portion of the county road known as the Cambridge Oxford road, lying within the boundaries of the Taotaoroa Road District, a district roid within 'the meaning of the 1 üblic Works Act, 1532, and the amendments thereof, and the said district be and continue under the control of the Road Board of the said district on and after the 11th day of August ensuing upon which date the order shall take effect." Seconded by Cr. Mills and carried.
Ordinary Meeting. Tlie usual monthly meeting was held at 11.30 o'clock mi tin same day at the same place, the same gentlemen buitiff present. Messrs Sandes and l'avitt, county engineers, were also in attendance.
The minutes of last meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and adopted. Traction Enuines.-Mi- C. Hudson, in reply to a letter from the Council re accommodation at country stations for loading and unloading traction engines, drums, fee, wrote, informing the Council that theio were portable cranes, which would be seno to any station to load or unload heavy engines, &c, the charge being Od per ton for cranage and 10s if the crane has to be sent to any out station. OKOROiiti SpßiNCiS.—The Engineer in accordance with instructions reported that to make the road to the Okoroiri Hot Springs as requested by Mr Isaacs would cost about £400 without including compensation for the land taken from tho Auckland Company, about 28 acres, and the bridge over the Waihou river. The £400 would be made up as follow :—Survey, £30 ; bridge ovsrOraka Geek, £00; approaches to same, £25 ; sidings, cuttings, etc., £20 ; swamp crossings aud culverts, £25 ; fencing, £200 ; gates, £15. The Clerk was instructed to forward a copy of the estimates to Mr
C.uiuuinoE-TAUiUNGA Road.—Mr Geo. Walker wrote, stating that as he was going to put in turnips in the paddock through which he allowed people to pass to go along this road, the Council would have to form the road along the survey line outside his property, or the persons wishing to use the road would not be able to do so.—The Lngineer was instructed to get the work done. The Engineer reported that he thought that before forming the whole of this road a deviation might be made.—This matter was left in the hands of the Patetere members, to report on at next meeting. Liohwkld-Tb Auoha Road.— The Matamata Head Board wrote, agreeing to complete that portion of the proposed county road from the Waircre stream joining the road leading from the Gordon Special Settlement. Punt. —Messrs Lloyd and Irwin, and Barnett applied for the right to run the Waiorongainai punt at Murphy's landing.—Or. Brunskill moved that Messrs Lloyd aud Irwin be authorised to run the punt at Waiorongomai on the same terms as it is run at present, save that the charges for foot passengers be 3d instead of Id as at present, the council to terminate the agreement at a week's notice, and to take over the punt at a valuation.—Seconded by Cr. Heaney and carried.—Cr. Murphy being interested in the question, did not vote. _ Slaughtering License.— Slaughtering licenses were granted to the following:— Hanks and Garlick, Waiorongomai; Geo. Walker, Tuaraparaharaha. Roll.—The Clerk was authorised to make the alterations passed at last meeting to the various valuation rolls, no objections having been received. Hill Track.—J. Shine, the contractor for the hill track, wrote stating that he was unable to complete his contract owing to the contractor for the supply of firewood to the Battery, destroying the road as soon as he had formed it. It was resolved to post the following notice at the top of the Pern Spur :—Proceedings will be taken against any person dragging logs, firewood, or any other material on said track until the com-
pletion of contract. Lease.—The county seal was affixed to the deed of transfer of the lease of the tramway from J. C. Firth, to the Te Aroha Silver and Gold Mining Company. Notice or Motion. ~Cr. Murphy moved that the engineer bo instructed to survey the unsurveyed yorliou of the Lichfield-Te Aroha road running from the Matamata riding towards the southern boundary of the Patetere riding.—Seconded by Or. Heaney and carried. Lowkr HillThack.—Cr. Murphy moved that the Engineer be instructed to survey and estimate the cost of completion of this road from the New Era Battery to Premier Hopper.—Seconded by Cr. Mills.—On being put the motion was lost. Tenders.—The following tenders for the Lichfield-Te Aroha Road were received:—Contract No 1, from Putaruru to Rotorua-Oxford Road : J. Forrest and Co., £487 8s 4d ; B. Coleman, £347 5s Bd.; Shine and Geaney, £315 3s 4d ; J. Finnery, £315; F. D. Rich, £300; G. W. Ormsby, informal. The Chairman moved that the tender of Mr F. D. Rich be accepted. Seconded by Cr. Browning and carried. Contract No. 2, from RotoruaOxford Road to Cambridge-'f auranga road : Forrest and Co., £382 18s 4d ; B. Coleman, £330 17s (id ; Chitty and Hunt, £324 19s ; Shme andGeany, £292 5s lOd ; Riley and Corcoran, £2!)0 l'Js 2d ; T. Hamilton, £280 13s lOd ; G. Walker, junr., £282 7s (id ; J. Finnerty, £257. G. W. Ormsby informal. —Cr. Brunskill moved that the tender of J. Finnerty be accepted.—Seconded by Cr. Dibble and carried. Flax.—The Chairman said that he had
noticed an advertisement in the papers from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, calling for tenders for cutting flax on the West side of the Waitoa River.—The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr S. 1\ Smith, informing him that the council understood there was a road a chain wide on the banks of the rirer, and asking by what authority he called for tenders for cutting the flax.
