WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council was held in the Council Chambers, Ohaupo, at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, when the followiug were present: Crs. Lang, (chairman), Smith, Farrell, Dawsor. and Finch. The county engineer, Mr Armstrong, was also in attendance. The. minutes of the last ordinary and adjourned statutory meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and adopted.
JSncin'kkk's Report.—The engineer's report was adopted, and the engineer was instructed to have the repairs done to the Cambridge bridge, and also to the Whatawhata-Newcastle Road from Sloane's corner towards Newcastle as recommended in his report.
Wateu. —Mr E. Fitzpatrick, of Ngaruawahia, wrote, complaining that water lodged on the road in front of the Ngaruawahia. school, and the children got wet footed going into school. As there was no roquest for anything to be done, the letter was received.
Leu AL Expenses.—The Raglan County Council, with reference to the legal expenses incurred in connection with the suit against the Auckland Hospital Board, wrote confirming their previous letter on the subject, refusing to pay on the grounds that at the time the liability was incurred, the council was not ia existence, mid they did not recognise the action of any one outside the council pledging the finances of the council. Bridges and Febries.— The Raglan County Council wrote denying any liability on this acount except for the items 10th January, ISSB, repairs and material for the Te Rore Bridge, and for which items they request a detailed account. WirATAWHATA Road.—Messrs Fawkes and Foxall wrote calling the attention of the Council to the state of this road, and offered to supply teams and men to do repairs under the instructions from the Engineer. It was resolved that no action lie taken at present. * Waipa Bkidge.—Mr McDonald drew the attention of the Council to the practice of the natives of drawing sledges without wheels and unelung Jogs over this bridge, and it was decided that a reward of £1 be given to anyone giving such information as will lead to the conviction of any person dragging logs or sledges without wheels over this bridge. Tub Lath Ovebbraft.—The AuditorGeneral, in reply to the letter from the Council re overdraft stated that as the overdraft had been incurred by the late Council, and had now been reduced within the limits, he would abetain from further action in the matter. Cr. Dawson moved that the clerk write to the Raglan County Council, asking by what authority they had done the work. Seconded by Cr. Finch and carried. Rating.—The Karioi Road Board forwarded a copy of a petition, praying for the abolition of the present system of rating and the substitution of au acreage rate, and asked the co operation of the Council in bringing the matter before the House. Cr, Farrell moved that the Clerk reply that this Council consider the present system of rating more generally applicable.— Seconded by Cr. Smith, and carried. Funds.—The Clerk reported that since last March £1007 had been collected as rates, and that the overdraft of the Council now stood at £940. Rabbit Dogs.—Cr. Finch, on behalf of Mr Wills, a new coiner into the district, applied for the issue of rabbit dog: , ' collars. Granted. '•/ Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—T. A.
