It will be observed that the people in the Hamilton district have decided to raise their voice against the policy of the Government in imposing heavier burdens on the country in the form of additional taxation, before using all the means that are available for reducing the public expenditure, and introducing greater economy in the preseut system. An influentially signed requisition has been presented to His Worship the Mayor t convene a public meeting to discuss thes grave questions, and a meeting, is there fore, called for half-past three on Saturday afternoon. We have no doubt there will be a very large attendance on the occasion, for the settlers of the Waikato, perhaps more than those of any other district, feel the crushing effects of the thoughtless legislation of the past, and are not cheered by the outlook of the present. The meeting should be prepared to pass resolutions that are a true rellex of the feeliug of the community on the question.
