Destructive bush fires have broken out at Kiaina, ami as there is a heavy gale ragiiig, the fire lias spread with great rapidity over an area of eight miles. One life has heen lost through the fire, and several persons have been injured. The Maritime Labour Union have taken a firm stand on the Chinese question. It is anticipated that difficulties will arise on the arrival of the mail steamer Alameda, as it is believed that the Union men will refuse to work the steamer unless the Chinese are diseharged. A eompany has been floated to construct artisans' dwellings in this city on the lines of the Peabody Homes in London. Houart, June 23. The Opposition arc strongly opposed to tho property tax -proposals of the Government, and are in i'avonr of .'in income tax. The House has resolved to reduce the vote for salaries by 2h per cent.
