CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A si'KCr.u, meeting of the above Council was held on Thursday evening at 7 p.lll. Present: The Mayor (Mr Rally), Councillors H. Gillett, ,1. H. Bond, J. Ferguson and 11. Webber. Atnrr.—The Mayor said tho meeting had been called to approve and settle the Borough accounts. The meeting should have been field 011 the fourth Tuesday in May, but as the balance sheet had not then been received from tho Auditor, they could not comply with the Act. It had now been received, and the Auditor-General had certified as to its correctness. He then moved that tho balance sheet and statements of accounts as certified to by the Auditor be signed by the Mayor. Seconded by Cr. Webber and carried.
The Floor of the Funr.it: Hall.--The Mayor said he had his attention directed to the present bad state of tho Fublic Hall floor by several individuals. He was led to believe that if a new floor was put down, the hall would very probably be taken for two or throe nights in the week for linking purposes ; not for skates with brass wheels, as used by tho present club, but with wood rollers, which he was told did not do any damage. Then, again, if there was a good floor, it would be let for dances which at the present were being held in the school, as that floor was a better one. Ho thought that perhaps the enhanced revenue would pay for the extra outlay. Cr. Ferguson said a good kauri floor I.V inches thick would cost about ,£:!0, and kaikatea t'l-"i. The present floor had never been strong enough, and had been greatly injured by having tea tables, etc. nailed to it. Cr. Webber said it was certainly in a very bad state.—Cr. Gillett thought tho rinking had done tho greater part of the damage. Referred to the Fublic Hall committee to rep irt upon at the next meeting of the Council. The Gouto.n Road.—The Mayor read a letter received from the Toatoaroa Road Board, calling attention to the state of tho Gorton road from Bull's corner to the Karapiro bridge.—Cr. Webber said he had inspected the road. It was all right on the high ground, but near tho bridges it needed repairing; the culvert was choked and the water was washing over the road. He thought one day's work would set the matter straight. Referred to Works Committee with power to act. This was all the business.
