BUTTER.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As ono of the numerous dairymen bring near Hamilton, might I suggest thata Grocers' association he formed, ho that tho price of butter might be fixed week by week, and so that such price might, be more approximate to those obtained in Auckland and in other Waikato towns. It is a well-known fact that during the past season, and up to the present time, tho wholesale price of fresh butter has boon lower in Hamilton than anywhere else, and whon remonstrated with, tho grocers liave declared that they were unable to raise the price, owing to the action of ono or two of their number, who insisted upon keeping it down, thereby gaining a little extra trade. At the expenso of the surrounding settlers. This policy can have but one result, that of driving a large amount of trade, slowly but surely, out of the town, for even Waikato dairymen becoino tired of getting from 2d to Id per lb loss for their butter than they can get elsewhere. A Grocers association, publishing a standard price would romedy this; it would benefit us, it would benefit themselves, and surely at the prices which have hwi ruling for the past year or two, it would not hurt tho cousumora. —Yours respectfully, W. Shepherd.
