Carter who ia a subtenant of Mr T. Freeman for section 17 of the Domain hinds, regarding the pump and windmill on that section which is out of repair and the well dry. Mr Carter wanted the Board to deepen the well and repair tho windmill, and he (Mr Wells) had promised to bring tha matter before the Board, although he at the same time told Mr Carter he knew the Board would not hold themselves liable. He then read a copy of a lutter that had bueii sent to Mr Freeman on September lOt.h, ISS7, in which the Board refused to recognize any liability for repair.-;. The members would remember that Mr Freeman hud been granted a substantial reduction in rent, in consequence of his having laid down the paddock in grass, but in4e:d of gv,\m it had proved the veriest rubbish. They had eaten several valuable .shrubs and nearly tlio whole of the violets. They must be kept out by some means and knowing that labour was now very cheap, lie had taken the liberty of calling for tenders for five "kissing gates "which he thought would prove an effectual cure. The five gates, if erected, would all bo on the uppor fiat, as that was the only part through which the cattle had as yet found their way.—Mr I'isher : Why not at the lower entrances as well ? We shall never get thorn cheaper than at tho present time. The Chairman: We must think of our overdraft. It was resolved that the action of the Chairman be approved, and that the gates be erected. The tenders were then opened and proved as follows : —W. J. Young, £\ Sα !M (accepted): JL\ Murphy, £1 Kis Od; R. Morso, i37s M; J. N. Miller, V.7 9* M ; R. Kerr, £7 10s } S. L >dder, £S 10,; ef. Johnson, £S 15s ;H. Carter, t'S) IN. Ths Chairman said the whole of the old puriri posts were to be used, the new timber to be heart of kauri or totara and the whole to hare three coats of paint. Hβ thought each Rate was honestly worth 2.M and they were getting them for 17s'Jd. That showed the state of the labour market. JTinanck.— The Chairman said the rent account was in a more satisfactory condition than at the last meeting sh there was now only £58 18s 5d owing. There were however a few who were more than two quarters in arrear. The Chairman pointed out a clause in the loaso, that not only stipulated that all furze and other noxious plants should be eradicated, but also gave the Board power to re-enter, if it was not done. Mr Fisher intimated that a member of the Board was a defaulter in that direction, but as he was not present, ho (Mr Fisher) would not bring the matter up.
