PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tiik usual monthly meeting of the Piako C unity Council was hel»! at the Phumix Hotel," Morrinsville, at 11 o'clock yesterday. Thure were present : Crs. Ghopmell, (chairman), O.mld, Dibble, Williams, Heaiiey, Murphy, Milk drowning and J'.riiusliill. Messrs T. G. Sande.s and l'\ l'.ivitt, cmnLy engineers, were in 'Attendance. After confirming the minutes of the previous meeting, a special meeting and the adjoumuJ special Hireling, the outward correspondence was read and adopted. Loan.—A telegram was rrcjivud from the Treasury, stating that a voucher for £.luUO had passed tlia Audit office, and that the money would be forwarded in a few days. KOAIW.—Mr I' , . D. Rich wrote, askinst that the road no the Thames Valley shonld be started at once, as the Thames Valley Land Company are making improvements on their Southern boundary, and cannot now get the drays from the Maungawhara station.—Cr. Heaney moved that the engineer be instructed to call for tenders for making this road from the Cam-luidge-TaurangA Road to tho Orakau Creek.—Seconded by Cr. Murphy nnd earned. Distbict Roads.— Tho Taotaoroa Road Board wrote, asking the council to delegate powers to them to mako and maintain the roads in the riding, i.e., to make the road a district oue instead of a county one. —It was resolved that the request be acceded to, subject to the conditions contained in Section SI of the Public Works Act, 188-J. • Thahim Vallky-Tabuanga Roau.— Mr F. D. Rich applied for a little money to be expended on repairs on this road, as the Thames A r alley Land Company would have to do a lot of packing on the road during the winter, and at present it was only just passable.—Cr. Heaney moved that 420 be expended on this road during the winter.— Seconded by Cr. Dibbie and carried. A Go3o Ot'FEll.— Mr l< , . D. Rich wrote, offering to clear, gra's, roll and form a half chain road from Licbfield to Clarke's letter-box, a distance of about 8 miles, at a cost of 3s per chain. It was resolved that the offer of Mr Rich be accepted. Road Boakd Work.—Mr W. A. Murray applied to the council to lay off a passable road through Mr T. Russell's property to his own at Mount Pleasant.— The Clerk was instructed to reply that the council had nothing to do with this road as it was under the jurisdiction of the Waitoa Road Board.
Waikakai: Bridge.—Messrs Thompson and Roche, of Shaftesbury, wrote, asking that the approaches to this bridge might be completed as the crossing now used was dangerous.—The Engineer was instructed to have the approaches completed. Gates.—Mr Jas. Bailey drew the attention of the council to the number of gates on tho Oxford-Waitoa Road, and asked the council to havothem removed, as they were a great inconvenience to persons using the road. It was resolved to take no action in this matter.
i'ENCiNts.— Mr Bailey also wrote, slating that the road from the gate to where it crosses the railway line near Oxford deviated from the surveyed line, and as he intended to fence along the road line this road would not be able to be used, and he asked the Council to form the road along the proper survey line.—lt was resolved to take no steps in this matter.
Punt.—Mr H. J. Hawkins wrote, asking the Council to consider the advisability of erecting a bridge over the Waihou River, at Waiorongomai, as when the punt was stopped the settlers on the west side of the river could not get to VVaiorongnuiai except via Tβ Aroha. —Cr. Murphy, lessee of the punt, gave notice that he would cease to run the punt afcer the 31st July next. Tho clerk was instructed to call for tondors to take tho punt on the aaine terms as it was held by Cγ. Murphy.
BniiXiE.— A petition from 113 ratepayers was read, prayinsr that the Council erect a bridge over the Waihou, at Waiorongomai. The Petition was received, and the clerk was - instructed to reply that the Council had no funds.
Drain*.— Mr Baskett, of Waiorongomai, representing the ratepayers from Waiorongomai, drew the attention of the Council to the impassable state of tho road from Graham-street to tho upper-hill track. —It was resolved that £20 be expended on draining this portion of the road. Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—l). O'Longhlin, £1; P. Thompson, £7 19s ; T. Thompson, £7 7a; W. L. C. Williams, £8; Brett, £12 tis; Thk Waikato Timks, £2 14s; R. B. Willis, £1 Is ; B. Montague, £2 10s; J. Shine, £40; S. Johnston, £3.
More Gatjss.—Mr Given wrote, complaining that he had had to remove the gate which he had erected to keep his cattle from trespassing on his neighbours' property. The letter was received, Hardouii Limits.—The Minister of Marine wrote, informing the Council of the new limits of the Thames Harbour Board limits, which left out the districts of Piako and Oliinomuri.
Slaughtering License. — Permission was granted to transfer a slaughtering license from Mr F. Dibble to Mr D. Scelly. Cambuidgk-Tauj'O Road.—lt was resolved to put a surfaceman on for five weeks to repair the road past Waotu, the cost to to be deducted from the £40 grant from the Government.
Sanatorium. —Mr A. Isaacs, who is erecting a sanatorium at the Oknroire Hot Springs, asked the Council to take a road from the Okoroiro station in as direct a line as possible to these springs.—It was resolved that the road be made in accordance with tho Public Workß Act, provided that Mr Isaacs bears the cost.
