Road Fro.m Mcbphy's Landing.—A petition has been sent in to the Piako County Council, asking that the road from Murphy's landing to Waiorongomai be metalled. Thi3 road is used by the coaches, and all persons carting to and from Waiorongomai, there is not a stone of metal on it, and it' is already in a frightful state. If the County has any funds to spare at all, a contract should be let at once for making passable this much used portion of the road. Risk in Value ov Land.—As showing the rise in value of landed property, I may mention that a gentleman of this district was recently offered, and lias refused the handsome price of £10 per acre for his fine estate of 1000 acres.

A Cowardly Act.—Some little time ago a settler here lent his bull named (Solomon) to anothor who kept him in a securely fenced paddock, and during the night some one let him out, and when he was found it was discovered that some neighbour had maltreatod the animal, and rendered him useless. Hanging is too good for the maimer of cattle, punishment on the "eye for an eye " principle is what he deserves. He at last was induced to see that it is hardly good enough to run a race carrying a heavy young man on one's back in a state of pnris naturalibus on a fine afternoon with a big" crowd looking on.
