Town Bo.utiv —The monthly meeting of the Town Board took place on Thursday. Present: Messrs Dobson, (chairman), Frazer, Ilott and Hotchin. The minutes of the previous meeting wero read and confirmed. Correspondence: — Letters received : From A. Berger, requesting improvement of footpath in front of his dwelling-house. Matter referred to Works Committee.—From M. O'l lonoghue, asking for return of £2 deposit on lapsed contract. Resolved that the amount be returned.—■ From G. Wilson, applying for permission to lay drain pipes from his promises across footpath in Kenrick-streot. Kequest granted—From Commissioner Crown Lands, Auckland, informing the Board that the removal of gravel from the Government township sections on west side of the river by contractors must cease. Clerk instructed to reply that the necessary notice hud been given.—From ClerkPiako County Council with copy of Special Order by which the control of tho county road within the town district was transferred to the Board. From saino, requesting the Board to furnish tho Council with accounts and statements, as required by section 317, Counties Act, 18S0. The clerk was instructed to comply.—Poundkeeper : No returns having been received from the poandkeeper for a period of three mouths, it was resolved that he be requested to supply thesarneforthwith, and at tho same time be in formed that in future the Board will requiro to be furnished with accounts regularly overy month.— Gravel pit: The clerk was authorised to mako application to the Crown Lands Board for a grant of two acres of waste land outside of the Government township reserve, from which to obtain supplies of grarel for street purposes. —Footpaths: A considerable amount of damage having been done on some of tho newly-formed footpaths by stray horses and cattle, it was decided to instruct the ranger to see that tho bye laws bearing upon the matter are enforced.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—Brett and Co., advertising, £7 ;">s; do., rent, ki 15s; H. Crump, services as valuer, £2 2s ; J. Lavery, do., £2 2s.
Licensing Meeting.—The quarterly and annual meeting of the Licensing Committee was held in the Court-house on Saturday, there were present : Messrs Lipsey (chairman), Heathcoto, Hetherington, Gallager, and Dibsell. Renewals were granted as follows :—Arthur Downcs for the (Jlub Hotel, A. A. Smith, Hot Springs Hotel ; George Kbert, Palace Hotel; and Mrs A. Thomson, Family Hotel, Tβ Aroha. S. T. Smardon for the Waiorongoinai Hotel, Waiorongo■nai. Frank Rose for the Oxford Royal Hotel, Oxford, and Alex. Heany for the LichKald Hotel, Lichfield. A new licenso was granted to Martin Murphy, for the Premier Hotel, Waiorongouiai. The applications for new licenses by John Mace, for the Commercial Hotel, and by .Patrick '.jiitnlan, for a house to be known as the Worahiko Hotel, both situated :it Waiorongoinai, were withdrawn. JXo 11 o'clock licenses were granted, consequently from the commencement of the now teem the whole of the houses will close at ten.
POMCE^CouRT.— An individual named Ueorge Kenny, was brought up in tho Police Court, to-day, charged with three offences. For being drunk and disorderly he was sentenced to a fine of 20s, or seven days imprisonraont, for using obscene. language, two months, and for resisting the policn, to one month in Mount Sden Gaol with hard labour, the last two sentence?) to run concurrently.
