Mr -Wilson asked if Messrs' Whitaker,:Pollen, Waterliouse, Oliver and Fharazen had vacated their seats through being: absent from t.lie Council for two successive sessions without permission. The Attorney-General referred him to the records of the Council to ascertain the facts. Hon. Mr Mantel moved for tho production of papers relative to the payment of members of tho Council. Motion agreed to. ' lion. Mr Wiahavyaha (fciopata) asked tho Government if they would take "steps to check the frequent visits of To Kooti to. the East Coast. Tho Government reminded Mr Walia■waba that Te -Kooti .was pardimedj but promised to do what they could with him for. the future. Hrtn". Mr Barnecoat moved the second reading of the Educational Franchise Bill. Hon. - Dr. Pollen moved, as" an Amendment, that the Bill be read that day six months. The Council divided on. the question "'that the words ..proposed tube omitted stand part of'thc-qiiestion." 'v • Ayes, 7 ; noes, 18. The amendment was carried. The Council rose at'-1 o'clock till Tuesday.
