The Waikato Times Ojfm, Friday. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Mr Alfred Buckland's Wekkly Report.—At the Hay market, during tho past week, meadow hay has ranged from Is 9d to 2s 6d ; oaten sheaves, Is (id to Is 9d per cwt; chaff, 2s Gd to 3s per cwt; maize, 3s ; oats, 2s 2d per bushel. On Friday, May 20, horse stock of a good class, suitable for active harness or strong riding horses, were in better inquiry at a slight advance in values, and brought from £.S to £14 each, with an unantisfiod demand ; other descriptions at late dull values ; and a spring cart with harness, til. On Tuesday, Mav 20, hides and skins were pitched in full numbers, and met with a good sale throughout. Ok hides ranged from 2yJ for damaged to 4J;I pet lb ; cow hides, from 2d to 3yd; calf skins, from 3d to 3d ; tallow, 12s !)d to 1 Is; sheepskins were in demand at improved values, prices ranged from Is <id to 4s 9d each. At the Pukekohe sale on Monday a small muster of stock found buyers at late values. At l'apakura on Wednesday few cattle wero brought forward, but a large number of horses, in response to tho advertisement, but they were not of the class required, and but little business resulted. At Remwera, on Thursday, the dairy cattle brought forward were of moderate quality only, but sold freely, and improved prices were obtained. Prices for those near calving ranged from £5 .">.s to £(> 12s fid. Store cattle, in usual number, sold much higher than for many markets. Eat cattle abundant; prices irregular, and lower ns the sale proceeded. Prices for good steers brought from 1-ls to Kis the lOOlbs; cows and inferior fatted steers, from Us to Ills. Prices given for drafts of good steers ranged from £5 to £G 10s, although individual cattle brought as high as £8 17s fid. Sheep, in short supply, sold freely. Wethers ranged from lis to los 3d ; ewes, 8s (id to 10s ; lambs, 8s to Us each. Figs, in short supply, rallied in prices. Well-bred porkers brought 3d the lb. dead weight, and heavy coarse, but fat pigs, li'd tho lb. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Rki'OßT. —Horse feed, seeds and grain : The supply has been good, and the demand increasing. We sold oats, Is lOd to 2s 3d ; chalf, in largo quantities, 2s (id ; small, 3s per cwt; rye grass, 3s ; cocksfoot, ">s ; car rots, 3.m. Horses : The supply has been about tie average, with a great scarcity of good animals, for which the demand continues brisk. On Friday, at the Durham Yards, we sold hacks from £3 10s to £16 iris; light-harness horses, £(j to £t>: draughts, £10 to £17 ; sound riding hacks in brisk demand, and wanted : spring carts, new, £10 to £20; second-hand ditto, £1 10s to £13 ; dray, £7 los ; sets of harness, £2 to £•"> 2s lid. Wool, hides, skins and tallow : At the sale, on Tuesday hides and skins were in full numbers; bidding was brisk; ox hides, up to 4|d ; cows', o^fl; small ox hides, 4d to 4.} d; heavy, 4i'd to 4Jd; small cows', 2.1 dto 3d; calf skins. 4d to sd; sheep skins, 2s to 3s lOd; lambs, 2s -Id to 3s; tallow, 13s, Cattle : At tho Newmarket Yards, on Tuesday, dairy cattle were in brisk demand and fair supply, and with few exceptions all in were sold at advanced prices. There continues a demand for good, sound young animals. Prices were from £3 10s to £7 2s (id. Store cows, 20s to 30s and up to £2 ss, according to condition ; calves, Us to Us. Fat cattle were yarded in large number and were steady throughout the sale at last week's values; fat cows made £2 10s to £4 15s; steers, £3 5s to £8 ss. Beef: Steers, 17s; cows, 12s to 14s per lOOlbs. Fat sheep; The supply was an average one, and prices advanced considerably. Wethers, from 9s 9d to 14s Gd; ewes, 7s to 14s fid ; lambs, a small number yarded, prices ranged from 8s 9d to 9s 9d. Pigs : A draft of very fine large pigs sold at from 33s to l"n; small, Us to 18s.
