(BY TELEGRAPH.-—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Monday. John Pomeroy, alias Collins, was arrested for forgery. He was only just out of gaol, having served a sentence in Dunodiu for a similar offence.
William Smith Fletcher, grocer's assistant, was arrested on a warrant at the Bluff this morning; for deserting his wife and children in Wellington. The charge of sheep-stealing preferred against Richard Smith, a well-known settler at Pahantanui, was partly heard today, and further adjourned until Monday. DUNEDIN, Friday.
At the annual meeting of the City Licensing Committee all applications for renewal were granted, except in one case, the Universal Hotel, which it was reported was badly conducted.
