The question of consolidating the system of local Government is agitatiug the colonists in many parts of New Zealand, and measures are being taken to afford an expression of public opinion on the subject. Wo observe, by a recent exchange, that in the Hawera and Normanby districts, public meetings have been organised, and are being held in various localities to consider the question of merging Road Boards in the County Councils with the view of establishing a single road-controlling body within the Hawera County. This action is in the precise direction Ave have been advocating in these columns, and we. would be glad to see a similar movement set on foot here, and throughout the colony.
