Lomijx, May 22. Tuu Chinese difficulty in Australia is causing a great deal of attention here. The Morning Post considers that the isolated action of the New South Wales Government lacks weight, and that they should have co operated with the other colonies. Syuxky, May 22. In the Legislative Assembly to day, Mr G. R. Dibbs, Member for Murrtimbidgee, gave notice of motion of a direct vote of censure on the Government in conncetion with their action in dealing with the Chinese question, the motion requesting the withdrawal of the Chinese Bill introduced l>y the Govern ment. As the motion is considered one of want of confidence in t.h". Government, the House at once adjourned. At the Anti-Chinese demonstration tonight it was resolved to petition the Legislative Council to pass the Chinese Restriction Bill. A writ of habeas corpus will be applied for in the ease of those who wish to pay the poll-tax. The Federal Seamen's Union have decided to recommend that the Chinese be boycotted. Mki.bocknk, May 22. The Government have decided to allow the Chinese to land upon the payment of a poll-tax, but only to live iu a locality specially set apart for them. Way 2:l. The detained Chinese passengers who have paid the Poll Tax have beeu lauded. Adelaide, May 23.
Lord Knutsford has cabled that there can be 1:0 doubt the Imperial Government will be assisted by Australia making a joint representation on the Chinese question. Should the Conference meet he states that the English Government will telegraph certain points for its consideration and discussion. Wellington, Wednesday. The Government find that it will bo impossible for a Minister to attend the conference, and, therefore, they will revert to their original intention of seuding a delegate.
