ALLEGED LARCENY.
At tho Police Court, Cambridge, yesterday, Te Ranapia was charged by John McCann with stealing a saddle and bridle from the Masonic Hotel in September last. Constable Brennan said he had just received a telegram from McCann who was at Kihikihi, saying there were too many witnesses, and ho would lot the case fall through. The Bench said it was a hard case that the Maori should be put to the trouble of attending and bring a number of witnesses, and then for it to be withdrawn. Ranapia said he should like the case to be heard, as he had got a bad name through the charge being brought against him. The Bench dismissed tho case, and told the Maori he could bring a civil action for damages against McCann. We learn this will be done.
