A STRANGE MIRAGE IN SWEDEN.
On Wednesday, 15th February, oue of the grandest and most uncommon mirages was seen in Sweden, at Qiiistle Sawing Mills, in the county of Jemtland. It appeared over the Lake Storsjon, and first as a wide sunny plain ; soon afterwards emerged a kind of tower, which after another moment was seen to be part of a palace-like building adorned with cupolas and spires. Then several houses, and laatly a whole town, with streets, narrow alleys and trees, like palms, became distinctly visible Outside the town, on the plain, were seen two armies mnrolling towards each other. Ou the left hand side of the plain was a hill, ou which a small knot of men were seen standing, without taking any part in the encounter between the warriors. Finally, from the northern aide of the plain was seen the figure of a very big man advancing towards the armies and the same man was also seen to be slain whilst he was among the warriors. The mirage was so large that it occupied the whole of the eastern horizon. It commenced at 12 noon and lasted until sunset, and was seen by a large number of people, who believed that the phenomenon reflected an en- i counter between the Italians and the Abyssinians. Mirages, or " Magring," as it is called in Swedish, are common in Scandinavia, and in general appear over lakes or the sna.— Nyheter.
