HORSES FOR INDIA.
I understand that Mr Stevens, of Whanganui, who is .it present here, intends, in conjunction with a Wellington firm, to send a speculative shipment of 230 horses to India in the Union Company's steamer To K;ipw, to be under charter. One hundred and fifty will bo from Oainaru and various ports of the South Island, and one hundred from the North Island. About 7;j will bo cavalry charters, and an equal number for service in the artillery, the balance being carriage and buggy horses. The shipment will be in charge of Mr Stevens. The shipment will be despatched about the middle of June. Samples of New Zealand preserved meats, cheese, etc., will be taken to test the [ndian market.—Herald correspondent.
