MINING.
Waiokosgomai.—ln the New Find portion of the Company's property work is proceeding much as usual; fair crushing dirt is being broken although not in large quantities and 20 head of stampers aro employed. In Maisey's Contract Arizona, I believe the stuff is shaping tor a good return. This contract employs about 12 men. In the old Galena and May Queen two prospecting drives are being put in to be driven 100 feet in each portion ; this is with a view ot cutting any leaders that might be running parallel with the main reef. The successful tenderer for this work is a Mr Cleave, an old and experienced Thames miner. In the Silver King where the reef was touched on Thursday last, the contract has been let to Mr Leitli to drive 100 feet each way, that is North and South on the reef. This ought certainly to prove the value of the reef. A winze is being sunk on the same reef, for which the successful tenderer is Mr W. Andrews. In the Colonist four men are now working under the able management of Mr H. Andrews. I am given to understand that prospecting and not breaking crushing dirt is going on here. In the old Welcome claim, the property of Mr R. Bourke, a small quantity of stone was taken to the Thames (about two tons), and treated by the "Molloy Askam " process, which gave at the rate of 3oz. to tho load. Mr Wiseman was the successful tenderer for driving 100 ft. in the Waiorongomai portion of the Company's property. This is hard country, and we wish Mr Wiseman all sorts of success. Tenders were called last week for forming and cutting about 50 chains of earthwork for a water-race, the successful tenderers being Messrs Bunbridge and Wilson. Their party consists of eight all told, and they start operations to-day. Tho Company (by tho Company we mean the "Te Aroha Silver and Goldmining Company") have had a number of men the last two months clearing and otherwise preparing for the race. A good deal of trestle work will be required, some of the gullies being 70 and 80 feet deep. When this race is completed there will be ample water power at any time of the year. Messrs John Goldsworthy and party are prospecting between the Buck reef and the Werahiko, some fine reefs have been met with, and gold has occasionally been seen, but nothing that deserves special notice. [l!V TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION". 1 Duxkdin, Monday. An English syndicate has purchased all the mining claims on the Rough Ririge. WuLLi.NfrrON, Monday.
