RANGIAOHIA ROAD BOARD

The animal meeting of tho ratepayers of the above district was held on Saturday noon, May sth, at Green Hill, the residence of Wm. Taylor, Esq. There was a fair attendance of tho principal ratepayers present. Mr James Walton was voted to the chair. Finance.—The Chairman read the advertisement convening the meeting, and the balance-sheet certified as correct by the Provincial District Auditor. The statement of the year's transactions, showed an income of £280 13s 2d, and an expenditure of £273 15s 10d, leaving a credit balance of .£l2 17s 4d.—Mr C.J. Storey moved that the balance-sheet as read be adopted.—-Seconded by Mr Tierney and carried unanimously. The meeting was of opinion that the Board for the past year had carried out its duties in a most satisfactory manner, considering the small amount of funds at disposal, and that the money had been expeaded in a proper manner, having built a new bridge, repaired several others, and kept the roads in good condition. Conveyance of Hospital Cases —It having been stated by a, ratepayer that a workman in the district had recently broken his leg, and having no funds the public had to provide means to send him to the Hospital, and as a large sum was paid by the Couirty to the Charitable Aid Board, it was thought that that Board should arrange with each local body to temporarily advance the liecossary cost of removing such cases to the Hospital. It was resolved that Mr Taylor, the chairman of the Rangiaohia Road Board, be requested to communicate with the Charitable Aid Board on the subject, and also bring the matter before the County Council, of which lie is a member, as by the present system the charitably disposed were taxed twice over. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
