FOOTBALL.
England v. Otago
Ley tklegraph.—press association,] Dunedin, Wednesday. Thk attendance at the return football match, England v. Otago, was equal to Saturday. The weather was lovely, and the ground in good order. The play was much tighter, and not quite so fast, in the first spell especially, when Otago had decidedly the best of it, play being oftener in the colours' quarters. Neither scored, however, the blues played up magnificently in the second spell, and soon got a try, from which a goal was kicked. Thomson, one of their hnlf-backs, was hurt shortly afterwards, and had to retire, and though Otago held their own well for some time, the absence of one of their backs began to tell, and the Englishmen got a try, from which a goal was kicked. They got another try shortly afterwards, but no goal" was kicked. The Otago men tried hard to score in the few minutes remaining, but they were abled to do no more than hold their own, and the game ended in England scoring a second victory by four points to three. Were it not for the accident the general opinion is Otago would have won. Keogh, though nut quite recovered- played splendidly, as did Thomas, Otago's full back, and the other blues, though the Englishmen also played well, there was nothing like the superiority of the first match.
