WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The above board held its usual monthly meeting at the Borough Council Chambers, Hamilton, yesterday, the following lumbers being present: Messrs W. A. Graham (chairman), A. Primrose, S. T. Seddon, J. K. McDonald, C. M. Brunskill, W. P. Chepmell, Jas. Hally and W. Hunter. The outward correspondence was read and adopted. Protest.— J. B. Wliyte, Esq., and Major Jackson, M.H.R.s, were written to, asking them to enter their protest against the Secretary to the Treasury paying any part of the award made to the Auckland Board out of any subsidies due to this board. In both cases the request was complied with. Windmill and Pump.—The only tender received for the erection of a windmill and pump at the Hospital was from Mr 1). Richardson, of Cambridge, for £28.—Mr McDonald moved that the tender of Mr Richardson be accepted.—Seconded by the Chairman and carried.—Mr Richardson said that there would be some fencing necessary to protect the pump and mill, but that would be extra, not being included in the specifications.—MrPriinrose moved that the matter of fencing t,he paddock on the south side of the hospital, be left in the hands of the House Committee with power to call for tenders, and also that they be empowered to expend a sum not exceeding £5 to fence the pump and windmill.— Seconded by Mr Hunter and carried. Demand From Auckland Hospital.— The steward to the Auckland Hospital wrote, demanding the payment of £21. £1G 12s, and £4 Bs, for the treatment to William Cowan and Henry Tate respectively. On receipt of this letter the Secretary wrote to Messrs Cuwan and Tate, requesting the immediate paymont of the claims against them. No reply had been received from Mr Cowan, but Mr Tate replied, appealing to the board for assistance, as he had a wife and soven children, none of whom were able to do anything to support themselves, and his wages barely made both ends meet.— Mr McDonald moved that a final demand be made to both these persons, and failing payment of which, legal steps be taken for the recovery of the amounts. Seconded by Mr Hally and carried.—Mr McDonald moved that before paying the accounts from the Auckland Hospital, the Clerk be instructed to make enquiries with regard to the discrepancies in the accounts furnished by the Auckland Board to Mr Cowan, who was charged at the rate of 3s per diem, and this Board who were charged 4s per diem. Seconded by Mr Hally and carried.

Children's Conckut at Alexandra.— Mr Chappell forwarded as a voluntary l contribution to the Hospital funds the sum of 12s the proceeds of a concert given in a private room at Alexandra by six young children. The chairman moved that a hearty voto of thanks be recorded the children for their generous donation, econded by Mr Seddon and carried unanimously. Te Aroha Baths. —The Secretary wrote to tho To Aroha Domain Board, requesting them to allow William O'Neill, of Hamilton, who was suffering from partial paralysis, and only recovering from a broken leg, free use of the Baths. The request was granted, and the Secretary reported that O'Neill had returned greatly benefited. SunsiDV.—The Secretary wrote to the Under-Secretary of.the Treasury, requesting tho payment of £03' i 8s 4d, subsidy. Kn.revLß.—Mr L imb, of Wooloomooloo, wrote stating, that at present he did not know James Kilfoylo's address. The Secretary was instructed to write to the District Inspector of Police, asking him to communicate with the police in Sydney, with a view to finding out Kilfoyle's whereabouts. Contribution prom Waipa. —The Waipa County Council wrote, stating that the County funds were in such a condition that they have had to strike a special rate to meet the Hospital demand, and "this would take some time to collect, but as soon as possible they will forward some part payment.

Report.—Messrs Graham and Seddon, the deputation who waited on the Hon. Mr Mitcholeon, Minister for Public Works, on his visit to Hamilton, on behalf of this Board, with reference to the erection of a Refuge, submitted their report.—The report was adopted, and the thanks of the Board were accorded to Messrs Graham and Seddon for the trouble they had taken in interviewing the Minister.

Chairman's Rkpoht.—The Chairman road the following report :—Gentlemen, — Since the last meeting of the Board, the state of the Hospital is as follows :—Remained from last month, U ; admitted, 4 ; discharged, 4. Remaining, i); 7 males and 2 females. Charitable Aid : Widows left destitute receiving aid, 3; orphans left destitute receiving aid, 24; wife deserted, 1; children deserted, 4; infirm with ago and destitute, 0; sick relief, 1 j boys, (Kohiiuaraimi), 4; girls, (St. Mary's), 4. Distribution : Mrs Heyes, widow, 7 children, 3 rations daily ; Mrs Shaw, deserted, 4 children, 3 rations daily ; W. Mylrea, infirm, 1; H. P. McPhersoii, sick relief, 5s weekly. Cambridge : Mrs Harper, infirm, 2s Gd weekly; Thos. Butler, infirm, 2s Gd weekly. Ngaruawahia: Mrs Kilfoyle, widow, 2 children, as weekly; JamesFerrier, infirm, 5s weekly; Richard McGrane, infirm, 5s weekly. Rangiriri: Mrs Gray, widow, 9 children, Ss weekly. Raglan: Mrs Paris, infirm, 2s (id per week ; Haimoua, aboriginal native, destitute, 2s Gd per week. Finance : The presout state of the funds is as follows :—To bank credit balance, £053 13s i)i ; subsidies due by Government, £430 8s 9d; contributions due by Piako county, £357; do. Waikato, £352 7s 3d ; do. Waipa, £520 14s; do. Raglan. £147 lGs 3d ; do. Cambridge Borough, £38 14s 10d ; do., Hamilton Borough, £91 7s 4d ; subsidies £1 for £1, £1537 V.U 10d ; contributions to bo collected by Government, £3 5s 7d ; £1 for £1 subsidy thereon, £3 5s 7d ; subsidy on voluntary contributions, 14s 4d ; hospital fees receivable, about £GO. Total, £-1227 7s Bd. Accounts to be paid as per schedule, £131 7s 7d. To balance, £4090 Id. In accordance with resolution passed at the last mooting of the Board, specifications were kindly furnished by Mr Richardson and tenders were callod for tho supply and erection nf a double action pump and windmill at the Waikato hospital. Only one tender was received, that of Mr Richardson for £2S and the committee would recommend its acceptance by the Board with the provision that it bo kept in working order by the contractor for the space of three month's from the completion of its erection. I regret that we have been unable to complete within time of notice, the purchase of the Hospital owing to tho requisite funds not coming forward to do so with, as a new quarter has now commenced for which rent will have to be paid. Tho report was adopted. Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—Salaries, £4G 4s Sd ; rent, £28 15s; S. Mary's Orphanage, £!) 2s ; G, A ; oken, £9 2s 5d ; McDonald, £1; Teusdale, £3 4s ; Brunskill, £3 ; Heyes, £3 14s l<1; Shaw, lGs ; Tub Waikato'Times, 18s; Taylor, 7s 0d ; Sinitho, £1; Knox, £9 19s ; McPheivon, £1; fuel and light, £2 13s 2d ; wines and spirits, £1 2s ; office, 12s Gd ; sundries, 12s; Kelly, £1; Tebbs, £1 lGs 5d ; Qualtrough, £3 Is 9d ; Tucker, £1 19s 5d : rates. £2 12s Id ; relief, £3 12s.

Purchase oi>' Hospital.—The Chairman said that he hoped the arrangements for the purchase of the Hospital would be completed before next meeting.

Notice of Motion. —In accordance with notice given, Mr Chepmell moved that the resolution moved by Mr McDonald, and carried at the meeting held on the 4th January, 1888, to the effect "That application be made to the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for a refund of £2 3s, paid by this Board for charitable aid purposes, previous to the 21st March, 1587," be rescinded, seconded by Mr Primrose and carried, the chairman and Mr McDonald voting against it.

Rkliur—Mr McDonald moved that the items for charitable aid relief for the past month, be continued for the ensuing month. Seconded by tho chairman, and carried.

This being all the business, the Board rose.
