This last return was, however, entirely informal, owing to some irregularity in ti.e taking of the poll by tlie returning oiiicer. The i\lniiiEß.-Mr A. J. Cadman, M.H.R,, arrived at Paeroa on Thursday. He proceeded to Waihi mi Friday, in order tn inspect tlie mines and the district generally. „
Machinery for Waihi.—The s.s. Ivotuku brought another consignment of the Waihi Gold Mining Company's machinery on Thursday last, consisting of a large number of castings, and portion of the Globe mill plant. The contractors fur the carting of the machinery have been very fortunate in the Hne weather which we have experinced lately,.and have got nearly tlie whole of the machinery safely mi the ground. The "Eclipse" Claim—The Sydney minin" people are about to send their inspector to Waitokauri in order to inspect the Kclipse claim at that place which has recently been awarded to a party of local speculators by the Warden. The claim has been proved to be an exceptionally rich one, having turned out from mere scratch workings real specimen dirt, s uuetimes worth several dwts. to the pound. The reef also contains large quantities of silver. A Melbourne expert has been inspecting the Woodstock mine at Karangahake on behalf of a Victorian syndicate, and it is said that it will probably be floated immediately. The Adeline, Dubbo and Josephine, Karangahake, are offered as one claim to the; Sydney capitalists at i'lo,ooo, and a number of paid-up scrip, as yet not agreed upon. The first claim gets one-half and the second a third, a quarter share each.
The I'koposkp River Board. — The. Hon. 1\ I'isher, Minister of Marine, has wired to the Ohincmuri County Council, recommending it to confer with the Piako and Thames Comity Councils, and the To Aroha Town Board with reference to the constitution of a River Board. He wishes these bodies to come to some definite conclusion as to the number of representatives and to forward their recommendation to the Government. The matter of the revocation of the Order-in-Cuuncil extending the Thames Harbour Board limits to the upper country rivers, was to have come before the Cabinet on Thursday. Tin: Xuw Warden.—Mr 11. YV • Northcroft. R.M. mid Warden, is giving universal satisfacsimj, and his bmihoimnie and tact are a relief after the excessive irritability and nervousness of our late Warden, Mr Stratford. It is the several opinions that as soon as Mr Northcroft gains the experience in mining law and custom-, which is necessary his firmness, and desire for equity will ffive him an honourable place in our list of Wardens. Warden's; Court at I'aekoa — The agitation recently set on foot for a Wsrdcn's Court at Baeroa seems likely to have brought about its desired end as '. understand that members of the Cabinet are interesting themselves in the matter. Ihe only likely cause of the Court not being constituted is that the l'aeroa township is not outside the soldtield boundary hue. W.iN'f 'i;- —There is a great lack of water for cm- purposes. -^ [ " st ~f the kutenes an; hung np on that account.
