We have been requested by the writer (a well-known resident of Waikato) of a letter which appeared recently in the Herald under the heading "Protection : A Farmers Question," to republish it in our columns. We do po readily, as Protection, from the farmer's point of view alone, would be a curse to the country. We can, therefore, spare no effort to controvert the baneful influence of its advocates. The arguments advanced by onr correspondent are incontrovertible, and it is a remarkable coincidence that he had not yet read our leading article of the 17th instant; it could scarcely have been possible to have amplified it moro thoroughly and incisively than has been done by " Waikato Farmer" in his able letter.
