MAJOR DANE AT CAMBRIDGE.
On Friday evening Major Dane delivered his lcctui'tt on " The Heroic in Woman" in the Public Hall, Cambridge, to a very fair audience. The hall was about three quarters full, of which the greater part was ladies, who were anxious to hear what the Major had to advance on their behalf, and we are sure that he more than fulfilled their expectations from the very hearty manner in which they, from time to time, applauded him. We think this lecture has been mis-named, and that the title should have been " Women's rights," for, although the lecturer gave many instances of heroism in women, by far the greater portion of the time was consumed in demonstrating that woman is in every way equal, and in some instances, superit* to man. In relating several touching incidents, the Major did it in such a pathetic manner that some of the audience were moved to tears, alter which he would, by a single expression, cause them to laugh while the tears were flowing down their faces. It is seldom that an orator of Major Dane's standing visits tho country towns, but should he again visit the Waikato he will find a much better welcome at Cambridge than he received on this visit, as now the people know his capabilities, and many expressed their reget that he could uot stay and give a second lecture.
