THE PRICE OF BREAD.

The recant controversy on the subject of the relative prices of wheat and bread lias not been without soino ?ood result, as will be seon by the following, taken from Saturday's StarA meeting of the Master Bakers' Association was held on Thursday evening in Robson's Rooms, at which there was a fair attendance. The question of the recent " cutting " in the price of bread was discussed at some length. It was pointed out that owing to the number of bakers who had reduced the price of a 21b loaf to 2.J the members of the Association, who kept at tho regulation price of 3d wore losing numbers of their best customers, and that therefore it was inadvisable to further keep to their agreement regarding the price. It was ultimately decided to let the matter lapse, so that members of the Association might, if they chose, retail bread at 2.', d and fight the " cutters " on their own ground. With regard to the above it appears to Sie the opinion of many bakers that the 21b loaf may be retailed at li.ld, the only trouble being that it loaves a very small margin to provide for contingent expenses and losses by bad debts. In consequence of this some bakers are prepared to sell tho bread, a good loaf at 2|d for cash across the counter, but if it has to be delivered and booked it will still be charged 3d. This is the fairest system, because under the old style the good payors were simply paying one halfpenny too much for their bread in order to make up for the losses by " bad marks,"
