Mkktin'g ok T»wn Board.— The monthly meeting of tho Town Board (postponed from Thursday last) was held on Monday evening, when there was a full attendance of the members. The minutes of the previous monthly and special meetings were read and confirmed.—Correspondence: Letter from Property Tax Commissioner re Government subsidy to Town Board. The Clerk was instructed to further communicate with the Commissioner—also with tho Oolonial Treasurer—upon the matter. From Under secretary Public Works Department, re unexpended portion of grant (£!)(!3) for Thompson's track. Received. From G. Dei-erell, asking to be allowed to surrender contract for gravelling footpaths in Whitaker and Boundary-streets, and requesting return of deposit. Not complied with. From Messrs Smith and Don respecting improvements required on footpath in Boundary-street, near Hot Springs Hotel. Engineer to report. From Clerk Waitoa Road Board, re taking gravel from pit on west side of river. Received.—Obstruction of street: Tho Chairman reported that he had made further enquiry, as requested, regarding the obstructions in Stafford and Rewistreets. Resolved that Messrs Clarke and McDevitt be notified that the fences erected by them across these streets must be removed within three weeks from date. Removal of office: It was decided to remove the office of the jooard from Mr J. D. Frazer's old premises to the building formerly occupied :ik an office of the board at tho corner of Whitaker and Kenriukstreets. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Frazer forthe use of his premises.—Contract certificates: The clerk was instructed to communicate with the engineer regarding tho issue of certificates to contractors.— Offensive drains : The clerk was requested to direct the attention of Messrs Smith and Don to the offensive matter flowing from their premises into the water table in Whitaker-street, and to inform them that unless the nuisance is at once stopped tho board will have to take action in the matter. Mr Ilott asked permission to withdraw the notices (.f motion standing in his name. Granted.— Special meeting : Resolve! that a special meeting of the Board be held on the 23rd inst, for the purpose of revising and considering certain by-laws and matters relating to public health.—Works Committee: The chairman and Messrs Frazer and Hotehin wore appointed a committee of works. Accounts passed for payment, J. P. Vausc, Us; J. A. Miller, £0 3s lid; Government printer Is ; J. Dare, £2 10s ; Mclmr and Whitehouse, £1. This concluded the business.
Cos'CKitT—A. complimentary concert, to Miss K McClatche.y on the ociwsi-in of her leaving the district, took place in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening, and was largely attended. The programme comprised vocal and instrumental selections by leading local anuiteurs and mmly every item was excellently rondcrod. Programme: Overture, Te Aroha Brass Band; Chorus, by school children ; song, " Trie Miller and the Maid," Miss A. Wainwright; comic song, Master H. Tonge ; violin solo, selections from " Massaniello," MrSniales, with piano accompaniment by Mrs Wright. In response to a well-merited encore, these performers gave the finale to Don Juan. Song, "Parting," Miss Marshall ; chorus, " List the trumpets' thrilling sound," Company ; song, " Don't be sorrowful darling, , ' Miss Cocks ; danc, "Highland Fling," in costume, Masters F. and H. Tango ; song, "Only to see her face," Mr Whitehmise ; pianosolo, Miss McClacchey; song, Miss C. Cocks; duet, " What are the wild waves saying," Miss Cocks and Mr Whitehouse ; song, "Doughty Deeds," Mr Smales ; Maypole dance by school children. In the courso of the entertainment the Rev. J. Marshall, on behalf of the friends and wellwishers of Miss McClatchey, presented her with a purse of sovereigns, and in appropriate terms expressed the general esteem in which she was held. He mado pleasing reference to the willingness of the vouthfnl beneficiare to assist at all times with her musical talents in any worthy object, and assured her that she took with her in leaving the district the best wishes of the people of Te Aroha.
